    Chicken Coop Conversion

From rotted out old truck box to functional cozy chicken coop.

For starters... I really don't remember when my dad hauled this old insulated delivery truck box onto the place, but it had to be more than 30-35+ years ago.  We used it as an old tack shed for our horse equipment.
I think we had our 4-H show stuff stored in there as well.

Dad probably knew somebody who knew somebody who had this... and got it that way.  Back in the day, my dad was a pretty popular guy... well liked by most everyone who met him.  Like I said... back in the day.

It was in bad shape a couple of weeks ago.  I patched the roof seams and the rest of it looks fairly self explanatory.

The old siding that I used for this project, I reclaimed from a chicken coop I am in the process of tearing down.  Seems fitting doesn't it.  We are using materials from a chicken coop that once housed my chickens...
30-some years ago, to build another.

Once the back was finished, I laid down a new floor as you can see.

The Little Chalet style nest box in the above right & some of the lower pics, I made for Carol Last year...
maybe the year before.  I don't remember.

The Chicken Coop Is Finally Complete.

Carol is getting the coop ready for her chickens to arrive.
The chicks have been in our basement WAY to long.
The weather has been so crappy, it was the only warm place we had.
Here is a couple of views before the chickens arrive.  Looks pretty cozy.
Carol stuffed straw into the walls for insulation.  That's the way my Grandmother did it in her chicken house.
So, I thought it was kind of neat that we carried on this frugal tradition.
Here are Carol's rainbow layers, with a few broilers mixed in.

If you would like to help our farm out, we'll be selling farm fresh eggs this summer.
There should be an assortment of colors to choose from

    Look for our 'EGGS' signs.
We have a few eggs already, but not more than a dozen or so at any one time.
